The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI) provides guidance and information about a variety of topics related to a person's health. Prevention is emphasized.

In November 1985 NHLBI launched the National Cholesterol Education Program to raise awareness and understanding about high blood cholesterol as a risk factor for coronary heart disease through various educational efforts.

Lowering a cholesterol level that is too high helps to reduce the risk for heart disease. Find out what your cholesterol numbers mean and what treatments are available. This brochure includes a tool to estimate the risk for having a heart attack, and outlines ways to reduce risk as well as a list of resources for further information.

Facts About Heart Disease and Women: Be Physically Active

The facts in this booklet should be of every woman's concern: One in ten American women 45 to 64 years of age has some form of heart disease, which increases to one in four women age 65 and over.
